The quote that passed
Life is too fucking boring not to try.
Said by Lew Ashby, in Californication, Season 2 (2008)
You want to know where my motto came from? Not a monk, not a poet, not some guru in yoga pants selling breathwork on Instagram. It came from Lew Ashby, a coked-up record producer who threw parties so wild the furniture needed rehab. Lew had the Hollywood mansion, the women, the platinum records and enough booze and drugs to float a cruise ship. He was a degenerate with a gold card and a broken heart, and that dirty bastard understood life better than every motivational speaker on YouTube put together. Lew didn't sit around waiting for fucking permission. He grabbed life by the balls and squeezed until it sang.
Now look at you. You've got 1 life, no refunds, and you're spending it like a coupon you're saving for later. Same breakfast, same commute, same fucking Netflix password you borrowed from your ex. You're so scared of looking stupid that you'd rather die bored. Bored is the real killer, sweetheart. Nobody's tombstone says "He played it safe and it worked out great." Lew blew it all on music, women and living loud, and he still got more out of a weekend than you'll get out of the next 10 years if you keep living like a beige minivan.
Here's the part nobody likes: Lew wasn't a happy ending. He loved a woman he couldn't have, he partied like he was trying to drown something, and he died the way degenerates usually die. I'm not telling you to copy his exit. I'm telling you to copy his appetite. Take the hunger and leave the overdose. Trying isn't dangerous. Living a life so careful it's already a corpse with a pulse is dangerous. The only failure is a life with nothing worth telling at the bar, and that's a fucking tragedy.
Your move
So today, pick 1 thing you've been too chickenshit to try and book it before midnight. Salsa lessons, a solo trip, a stand-up open mic, asking out the bartender, the business, the tattoo. Put money down so you can't back out. Then tell 1 person, out loud, that you're doing it, so the shame of quitting is bigger than the fear of starting. Then go do something today you'd actually brag about. Lew would have.
