Thin skin not recommended. A horned stand-up comic with a cigar is about to tell you the truth, and she swears like it's her job. Because it is.

A sermon from the wrong pulpit

The quote that passed

We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.

Said by Seneca, Letters to Lucilius, Letter 13

LaDiabla as a Roman aristocrat: horns and a gold laurel wreath, lounging on a marble couch in a white and red toga with a cigar and a glass of red wine, a roaring lion and a marble bust behind her, and a scroll that reads SENECA.

Seneca was a Roman billionaire who tutored Nero, the emperor who later ordered him to kill himself.

That's a fucking shitty performance review. And even that man said most of your suffering is made up. Meanwhile you lie awake at 3 AM writing a fucking Netflix miniseries about how your boss's "quick chat?" email means you're getting fired, your wife's leaving, and you'll die alone in a van that smells like feet. Spoiler: he wanted to talk about the goddamn printer.

Your brain is a drama queen with a meth habit. It takes 1 unanswered text and turns it into a full fucking apocalypse. You've been rehearsing disasters that never happened for so long you could win an Oscar for Best Bullshit in a Leading Role. You don't have problems, sweetheart, you have previews of problems, and you keep buying tickets to the same shitty movie.

And here's the kicker: all that worrying doesn't protect you from a damn thing. It just makes you suffer twice, once in your head and once if it actually happens, which it usually fucking doesn't. You're paying interest on a loan you never took out. Every hour you spend marinating in "what if" is an hour you could've spent doing something, anything, other than jerking off your anxiety.

Your move

So here's your move today: grab the 1 thing you've been dreading and write down the worst thing that could realistically happen. Not the cinematic version, the real one. Then go do the thing anyway. Make the call, open the bill, send the "can we talk" text. 9 times out of 10 reality is way less of a bitch than the horror movie in your skull, and the 10th time, at least you'll know what the fuck you're dealing with.

Life is too fucking boring not to try. LaDiabla
