The quote that passed
Do one thing every day that scares you.
Said by Mary Schmich, Chicago Tribune, 1997 (no, Eleanor Roosevelt didn't say it, the internet is full of shit)
Your whole life has the thrill level of a fucking dentist's waiting room.
You order the same goddamn burrito every week. You take the same route to work. You've had the same 4 friends since high school, and 2 of them are assholes you're too scared to drop. The scariest thing you did this year was eat gas station sushi, and you didn't even shit yourself, so it doesn't count.
Here's the deal, sweet tits: comfort is a slow, quiet death that just feels like a nap. Your brain is a lazy little bitch that wants you on the couch, safe and warm, until you're 80 and wondering what the fuck happened. Fear is the only alarm clock that works. That stomach drop is your life knocking on the door, and you keep hiding behind the curtains like the pizza guy is the IRS.
And don't hand me that "I'm just not a risk person" bullshit. You're not a "risk person"? You drive on the highway next to guys eating cereal at 80 mph. You trust gas station hot dogs. You've had unprotected sex with someone you met on Tinder. You take risks all day, you just take the stupid ones and dodge the ones that could actually change your sorry-ass life.
Your move
So here's your move today: pick 1 thing that makes your asshole pucker and do it before dinner. Ask the question you're scared to ask. Post the thing. Call the person. Sign up for the class where everybody else is better than you. Do it shaking, do it badly, do it with your voice cracking like a 13-year-old's, but fucking do it. Then tomorrow, do another one.
